Monday is here, so that means it’s time for another Mr. Canola winner.
Winner: Jordan Eberle, New York Islanders
Embed from Getty ImagesLet’s be honest, it doesn’t take much to win the Mr. Canola award at this point. There is basically two requirements. First, be from Saskatchewan. Second, be on a team still playing hockey. That’s it. We are down to 4 Sasky boys still playing. Regardless, this is still the most prestigious award in hockey.
This week it didn’t matter if there was 100 guys from Saskatchewan still playing, Jordan Eberle was taking home this award.
He was dynamite for the Islanders. First he put up a goal and an assist in a huge game 5 win against the Bruins. On the power play goal he scored he went roof daddy. It was a thing of beauty. Then in game 1 against the Lightning, he set up Ryan Pulock for the game winner. Decent little week of work.
It’s nice to see him having the success he is in New York after he was stuck on all those bad teams in Edmonton.
I’ve heard rumours that if the Islanders can win the Stanley Cup this season the city of Regina is planning to rename the bay he grew up on after him. Frankly it should have been done after what he did at the World Juniors. It’s also time Team Canada retires number 14 at that tournament.
Good luck the rest of the playoffs and congratulations Mr. Eberle.
